I first got the idea to have a parallel narrative between Urmila in Ayodhya and Sita in the forest during the 14 years of exile as a concept for a TV show. Then in 2019 I took time off to write a book and happened to be reading a book based on Sita's perspective that left me heavily unsatisfied. That's when I decided to write Ramayana from Urmila's perspective where Urmila's character is treated fairly.
