Nora Murray As a world-class procrastinator my biggest challenge isn't always inspiration, it's motivation, and I work best with deadlines. I join workshop groups so I know someone is waiting for me to send in pages every week and that forces me to keep going. The feedback also helps inspire new ideas, different story lines.
Nora Murray I am working on a new novel about three friends dealing with the aftermath of a fatal house explosion. It grapples with conflicts of interest in their personal and professional lives, trying to do the right thing, but also supporting one another.
Nora Murray Don't ever give up, and find a supportive group of people that will help keep you going when you are inevitably ready to give up. We can love writing, but it is hard, it can be lonely and it is really easy to give up on your writing when you begin feeling discouraged. A cheering section who can keep you motivated and believing in yourself is invaluable.
Nora Murray The best thing about being a writer is that there are no limitations.

You can write about anything that pops into your head. You can write from anywhere, whether it be at a desk in your office or in the car waiting to pick up your kids from school. You can write at any age, at any level of phyisical health, at any time. No matter where you are in life, you can write.
Nora Murray I usually just force myself to write something, anything down, even if it's bad. It forces me to move the story forward, and I know I can always go back and fix it. I just need to jumpstart my brain.
Nora Murray My "to read" list is so very long and filling up my book shelf. I've just started "The Indigo Girl," for one of my book clubs, I"m in the middle of the Bridgerton series (because Netflix was not enough, and of course the books are better), "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents," and "Once and Future Witches" are at the top of the pile.
Nora Murray There were two stories in the news about children missing and one parent was suspected in the disappearance. In one case, the father refused to tell anyone where his daughters were and in the other, the mother's body was found but never her son. I found myself hoping desperately that those children really were in a safe space, even though the odds seemed against it. As I thought about it, the opening scene emerged and I wrote it all down. Originally, it was going to be a short story, but when I brought it to workshop I was told in no uncertain terms that it was actually a novel that I just hadn't finished. At the time, I didn't want to listen to them, but now I am very glad I did.
