You probably won't publish the first thing you write, and that's fine. Write a lot and a lot more. It takes years to hone a craft, and just when you think you've honed it, it takes years more to master it. (and even masters still have to practice their craft.)
Always be willing to learn and always be wanting to write.

There are so many great things, but one of my favorites is saying "I'm working," while I have 1776 playing on my tv (or other media that inspires a current WIP) while I write scenes with my favorite characters.
Oooh oh. Or when you find that one song or piece that just *Pacha meme* hits just right for characters/mood and you just sort of get that tight delicious feeling through your body because you know it's going to help you produce the best work.

I cry.
Okay, but really, I end up trying to saturate myself in the world that I'm working in. I'll make mood-boards, playlists, dress like the characters, make meals that the characters would eat, and watch movies that inspire me for that work that have similar aesthetics or face-claims.
I do try not to go on Pinterest. That's going to suck me in more than a Dementor wants to suck Harry's face.

I have a few "most recent books" that are WIPs, so I'll give three.
1. I was in a bookstore and saw an upper YA about the French Revolution. My mind deviated to why there aren't many books written about the 1832 June Rebellion. I immediately saw a student revolutionary and ballerina dancer in a dark alley, sharing a kiss. So that one is called Ballet/Barricade (but it looks better on the cover mockup I made.)
2. I had a dream that I was getting married to somebody I knew from high school but didn't like, and while I was planning the venue, which was a little hole in the wall sort of place, I saw one of my most favorite fictional characters walking in the hallway. Told my fiance I'd be right back. Ran off with the character to Vegas. I rarely have dreams that are full-out stories like this. So I changed the names and places and made it more sensational. That one is Un Deux Trois, Married.
3. I am very fond and intrigued, as well as horrified by the events of the Titanic. I have three immortal characters in my book series. They meet onboard the ill-fated ship. That one is Violet Silk and Emerald Lies. It's still very much a work in progress, and might not come to fruition. We shall see.
