Aimee Lopez Just write. Even if it makes no sense, even if it isn't specific to a piece you are working on, just write. And READ. Read as much as you can.
Aimee Lopez Everything about it, even the "bad" parts like negative feedback, are still great. I have always wanted to write a book, and holding it in my hands still makes me feel giddy, washing away any downsides. My goal was never to make a lot of money - it was for people to read my work and enjoy it.
Aimee Lopez Not the Victor came to me in a dream, and only a very small snippet of a very specific portion. Without giving away any plot details, it was when the protagonist started to have dreams. The entire novel came from that one moment.
Aimee Lopez I genuinely believe all writers are influenced by their life and experiences. That includes music and things we have read. Music is a big part of my writing, and I have a long playlist of ambience.
Aimee Lopez The sequel to Not the Victor! When I finished, I thought I might not be able to come up with a suitable plot that would fit with the ending of my prior book, which tied everything up with a neat little bow. So I sat on it for awhile and finally had an idea spring up, so I am running with it!
Aimee Lopez I am a big, big fan of stepping away. It took me six months to write my first book - I started with a Nanowrimo goal of 50k and blew through it, and then hit many, many roadblocks. I would put it down, go read something I enjoyed or was interested in, take a few days or even a week to reset. And then when I would come back, I would re-read from the beginning, and would find myself suddenly sucked back and able to continue.
