I travel to learn languages, and writing is one of the most effective ways to learn a language for me. I didn't even know I was a writer until I had published The Crush, in Spanish. I had already written 4 books by that time but I was the only one who had ever read them so it felt more like a language exercise than a career path until very recently.

I documented a lot of my travel stories and wanted to turn it into a book. I wanted to add a fictional overtone with a love-story inspired by a girl I had a crush on in college and fuse it with my travel experiences from my mid 20s.
