If I'm struggling with getting going I will take out a note book and start writing down conversations my characters might have about things - it can be anything and they absolutely won't make it in to any books but it gets my mind going

Don't wait for the perfect time to write - it doesn't exist, neither does the perfect age or idea. If you have a story you want to tell then write and keep going until you get to the end. And when you've achieved that give yourself a pat on the back, let the book rest and come back to it in 4-6 weeks to do a rewrite
