Hayley Rae Johnson I was in middle school when I had the idea for this book. I cannot remember exactly how the idea was formed, but I do remember writing it down that first time and getting excited about it. I had wanted to be the next JK Rowling, but I knew I had to be different, so I created the new way of using magic. It has evolved over the years, becoming more sophisticated and has a solid foundation now. I'm excited to create a series on this and, perhaps, a spinoff or two.
Hayley Rae Johnson Everything and anything inspires me to write. I know a lot of authors, and readers, are genre specific, but I am interested by everything and I want to write everything. I find people and humanity fascinating. Almost every time I see a person, I create their character in my head, or when I go somewhere, then I create a plot that could happen in that setting.
Hayley Rae Johnson I just released the first book in the Blood of the Ràej series and I will be writing the second book over the next couple months. That one should be released in December 2021.
Hayley Rae Johnson Just do it! There's never a good time to change your life. You can always find some sort of excuse. For years, my excuse was college. When I do this and find a stable job or when I get this done...People don't just become successful, they work hard it and they are consistent about it.
Hayley Rae Johnson Another author told me this, years and years ago. You need obedience and discipline! It took me 15 years to understand what this truly meant. When you are writing, you need to make deadlines and you need to stick to them. We live in a day where distractions are EVERYWHERE! You have to be disciplined in your craft so that you are not tempted by those distractions. That big, beautiful box on the wall with colors and sounds can be addicting. If you make yourself a daily scheduled, you can give yourself guilty please time too.
Hayley Rae Johnson Forced creativity does not sound good when it comes from me. There are dozens of different tricks and tips to help you out of writer's block, but taking a break is what works best for me. I need to walk away and not start again until I'm refreshed. This doesn't have to be a long time either, but even a 10-15 minute break, walking outside or doing a quick workout, will help me reset.
Hayley Rae Johnson This is what they must mean by "blood runs cold". My fingers ached from the lack of circulation, every hair on my body was standing at attention and I couldn't stop my continuous trembling, but if I climbed down from this tree, unfortunately situated above a sacrifice altar, then I would be spotted by the blood-hungry monsters garbed in their ritualistic robes and used as the next tribute.
Hayley Rae Johnson Let's get real - Harry Pottter's magical world! I would want to go to Hogwarts and attend every class they have. Defense Against the Dark Arts with Moody and Magical Creatures (with any teacher) would probably be my favorite.
