This might be cliche but typically I write when I’m either: not in a good place OR I’m feeling an intense emotion. Mostly other poets inspire me. But sometimes people in my life inspire me or previous life events do.

It’s a work in progress but I am starting on a second poetry book. I only have 27 poems right now so it might be awhile! I had a working title but I realized I didn’t like it. Expect a new collection maybe 2023!

I think the best thing about being a writer is having the ability to inspire people from your work. It’s the best feeling in the world when I receive positive messages about Brown Clay.

For me, I typically don’t push myself to write if I just can’t seem to get the words out. However what I’ve done in the past is just write anything, whatever comes to mind. Even if it’s gibberish. I’ve noticed it’s helped my brain pick a route to speak what I really need to say and I’ll go back and edit it after.

A few years ago, I saw somebody I know publish a book. I was a teenager then. At the time I thought it would be cool to write a book but I never thought it would be something I’d pursue. One day I realized how much poetry I had written in the span of six years and a friend of mine had encouraged me to publish them. I decided I would look into my publishing options, collect all my work and compile them in a document. One thing led to another and Brown Clay was born!
