"Children in the City of Czars: A Novel" was inspired by my adopted children who all came from Eastern Europe. Our daughter was adopted at 15 and had many stories to tell about her life and her time in the system. The first draft of this book was written while we waited for permission to travel to St. Petersburg to complete the adoption process (a full 2 years). But the book was such a tome, that after she arrived in the States, I set it aside and only picked it back up a year ago.
