My mother grew up in the Arkansas Delta and I've spent quite a bit of time there; I even attempted to make a documentary about a particularly eccentric cousin, who proved too complicated to wrangle into a film. However, the setting and the people and that powerful, mysterious Mississippi River would not let me go, and it seemed a perfect milieu for a thriller that combines the threat of climate change with the threat of domestic terrorism.
