You can’t force writing, if you can’t think of what to write. So you can always come back to it. But it helps to use writing prompts, such as adding a different word each minute for ten minutes. It is amazing how that works. Set a timer and then start with a random word and then add another word after a minute. If you Google writing prompts, there are loads of examples to get you started.

I love the peace and quiet while I am writing. I can’t concentrate with background noise, so I switch the TV and the radio off and just listen to the birds.

Someone had a very famous advertising campaign with the words “Just Do It!”

I have wanted to write for many many years, but like millions of people, I never took the time to do it, until lockdown. Every day life inspires me. People are so fascinating. When I hear a priceless comment or see someone interesting, I make a note of it in my phone, to use at a later date.

I recently moved house and I found a letter that I had written to my sister, many years ago, about the week that she died. I was sixteen and my sister was eighteen when she died.
I remember going through my teenage years holding my true emotions inside and pretending to be happy, although I was dealing with terrible grief. So that inspired me to write about three friends, who are each dealing with family issues but trying to ignore them when they are together.
I added some drama by the backstory of Alice, the girl who gets kidnapped in chapter one. That’s my favourite bit 🙂
