Julia Erickson Just start writing about something that you want to say something about. I write in spurts. I write with my co-author. I used to write in a weekly writers group, pre-pandemic. I've written 3 books that way (one is an unpublished novel). I just kept writing, without counting how long it took. Gradually, the books took shape. I got advice long ago that still holds true: "Writing is writing." I took that to mean that as long as I'm writing, I'm writing.
Julia Erickson My co-author and I realized that we felt so much better talking together about our experiences being fired. And as a career coach, I often work with people who have been fired and they feel validated and able to recover when they share their story with me. When I searched the literature after being fired, I couldn't find any books that addressed my feelings - being fired wasn't "the best thing that ever happened to me." So my co-author and I decided that it was time for us to gather a lot of women's stories about being fired - what happened, how we felt, and how we got through it - so that other women (and men) could find healing and hope from those stories.
