My inspiration for the main plot of the story was The Maltese Falcon, a dark detective novel full of false leads and trusted characters who weren’t what they seemed.
At the beginning of this novel, I describe a garden full of ponds, little windmills and garden gnomes. As a child, I lived for a short time near a house with a garden like this. I began writing about this and it inspired me to continue with the story which eventually developed into a novel.
