My second book! I enjoy the writing process way more than working on marketing my first book, which probably isn't the greatest haha. Since I have a full time job my books are just a side hobby and passion that don't get as much love as I'd like! Hopefully one day I'll be able to make enough time for it :)

My advice is to start writing with raw emotion because that's how you get the good material out and written down. After that, you'll be able to clean everything up to start the editing process. When reviewing your work, ask yourself, "Does this detail add to the story? Is it necessary?" That's one thing my dad taught me that I found helpful when editing my own work. Once you have edited a few versions yourself, hand it over to a professional and get ready to feel vulnerable! Feedback only makes us better, but remember, you don't always have to accept all suggestions. At the end of the day you still want to feel like it's your own work that you're proud of :)

Writing is my outlet so I'd have to say the best thing is being able to express yourself on paper and then have the feeling of immediate relief and clarity. If you end up publishing any of your written work, there's no better feeling of holding your words in your hands. It's crazy, scary, gratifying, and makes you proud all at once!

Since my book is a memoir, I get inspired whenever something little or big happens to me that I think others can relate to in their own lives. Whether I'm feeling good, bad, embarrassed, accomplished or upset, writing it out helps me process everything and make light of it. I write with a very light and sarcastic tone so I end up laughing at myself in almost all situations. My book is essentially my diary that's open to the public!

I've realized that if I ever try and force myself to write, I write very poorly. Therefore, I usually wait until I'm inspired to write again and trust that the writing process can be long. I can only produce solid writing when my raw emotions are at play as that's when it's most authentic.

When I went backpacking with my best friend, I kept a journal about our travels since it was an epic adventure of a lifetime. We met so many amazing people that we got to know very quickly and very deeply. It made me realize that it's very easy to connect and relate to complete strangers. When we got back from our trip, I gained a greater appreciation for two things.
The first was that I love my life and every good and bad thing that's happened to me. When I started to reflect on my life, I felt that I had a story to tell that others could relate to.
The second was that I really missed the feeling of connecting with people and I knew I never wanted to lose that feeling.
These two realizations made me feel the need to write a book about my life in hopes of reaching people who are willing to read my story and connect with a stranger. As we navigate life, it's nice to feel that you're not alone in your experiences. Humans like to feel a sense of connection, so I hope my book achieves that for my readers.
