Hmm, I'm not sure there is any mystery in my life! I am currently writing a murder mystery that involves an Irish-American family and involves the family restaurant. No mystery that my brothers own a restaurant, but it does make for a great murder scenario.

I had never written a book so I first read books about writing. I had the idea, but I didn't know where to start - even with all the years and years of reading books! A few of the books I read: Writing your Novel from Start to Finish by Joseph Bates; Fast Fiction by Denise Jaden; Wired for Story by Lisa Cron, and Book in a Month by Victoria Lynn Schmidt. After I had an idea of where to start, research on divorce and marriage laws, antidotes and stories from my sister and myself divorces - I started to outline a story then filled in the characters. I went over the outline and characters until I felt comfortable that I knew them and could write dialogue. From there it was write, rewrite, rewrite, edit, edit, edit, edit, edit....and then publish!

My sister went through a very divisive divorce. It took over 2 years and the two of them could not get along together. After the divorce, everything turned around - both were happy, children were happy, they could speak to one another without the fighting. My sister and I were on the beach (reading) when we started discussing what if there was no such thing as divorce and you had to legally uncouple after a certain amount of years. Maybe those who would normally get divorced would be more civil about the process. Let those who wanted to stay married fight it out in court. That is when the idea came to write about about a world where if you wanted to stay together - you needed to go to court to get Espoused.

Northern Spy by Flynn Berry, Dead in Dublin: A Charming Irish Cozy Mystery by Catie Murphy, Best Kept Secrets by Tracey S. Phillips, and Here Comes the Body by Maria DiRico. During the pandemic I found myself reading many Cozy Mystery books.
