Alex Mezulari A year ago I was talking to a co-worker who was a writer and after he mentioned he was I replied "oh yeah?" "I'm an aspiring writer myself." He quickly corrected me and said "your not aspiring, you either are or your not." It definitely opened my eyes. I heard someone once say "if you begin to lose faith in your writing ability and develop a severe case of writers block simply write like if what your jotting down was meant for the waste basket anyhow." That was sound advice to me. Remember that the only competition we have in life is with ourselves. It took me 4 years to finish my book which is my greatest achievement to date. I started writing one chapter than the next and froze. I didn't pick up the pen for 6 to 8 months. One day I felt like I had to get back to it. This happened a few times. Half way through I went back and revised and changed the format around and finally in 4 long years I had what I wanted and eventually hired an editor. It was a process and in the end I felt such a sense of accomplishment. So my advice is don't aspire to be a writer, just be a writer. In due time
one day you will come to believe you truly are.
