Kate Nason I'm currently working on my next memoir, La Bugiarda (The Liar). It's an exploration of my great-grandmother's fictitious ancestry, and of why she lied, and told everyone she was French when she was really Italian. Her lie leaves me to ponder the human connection to place and why despite her efforts to conceal her heritage, I had innately fallen for the homeland she’d left behind. Told against the backdrop of my adventures living in Florence, Italy. La Bugiarda is a celebration of my profound connection to her birthplace and to her native language.
Kate Nason When I get stuck in my writing, I go visual. Throughout the writing of Everything Is Perfect, I used collage to unlock a scene. Blocked, I'd step away from my laptop and sit with a stack of magazines, tearing out images that spoke to me at that moment. Then I'd arrange them into a collage and somehow that play of images would unlock the scene I needed to write. It worked every time. In the end, I had almost as many collages as chapters in my book.
Kate Nason My summer book stack is piled with memoirs. Beth Kephart's Wife/Daughter/Self, Carol Smith's Crossing The River, Melissa Febos's Abandon Me, Erika Schickel's The Big Hurt.

Also rereading Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson, and spending a lot of time with David Whyte's Consolations. Both gorgeous.
