Read. Read what you love and read a lot of it. Whether it be fantasy, romance, or the classics--books teach the love of a good story, and that is pretty much all you need to start writing. I was definitely a reader before I came a determined writer. Still to this day, stories are what inspire me to keep putting my own metaphorical pen to the page. Books also make really great friends, however fictional.
