My biggest inspiration comes from the books and stories that I love. I think about them a lot, stories mean so much to me. From there I start to think of characters and setting-- I'm a pantser so I rarely plot out anything. Most ideas like twists and things come during my walks, hikes and drives.

I'm working on a lot of different projects currently. In the early stages of a YA with an urban legend and a survival horror in the adult category.

The Pie book started with a vision of the final few scenes and a title... Don't Eat the Pie. From there I started to think about what I wanted the book to be like based on my favorite gothic tales and dread horror like: Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin, Get Out by Jordan Peele and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I wanted to evoke those same feelings I felt taking in those stories where characters are swept off to a dreamy beautiful setting and something just isn't right.

Most ideas hit me either when I'm walking or taking a good ol' midwestern drive around town. I write the idea down as soon as I can and keep a little note I my phone until I can get to my computer and type it up, then I draft on days where I'm not at my day job.

Experiencing different worlds and living in new character's heads for a while. It feels like dreaming while awake sometimes.

Don't overthink it just get it out. Write whatever you think of and go back and fix it when it's all done. Focus on what feels good or interesting to you, write the book you want to read. Your book won't be for everyone and that's okay!
