J.D. Ruffin This is going to sound odd, but I don't get writer's block often. I procrastinate and my mind buzzed around other things, but it's not blocked. Sometimes getting "in the zone" takes longer and I have a method for kicking it into gear: I close my eyes and picture my characters in last scene I wrote, then try to quiet all my thoughts and just watch what they do next . . . and I type that. It's amazing how the subconscious mind will take over if you let it and write the story for you. Just get lost in the world and characters and let them do the work! Voila-no block.
J.D. Ruffin That's funny, actually. When I was a nerdy 14 year old kid playing Dungeons & Dragons with my other nerdy friends, I was determined to create a campaign that would sing through the D&D ages. I made maps and crafted the basic storyline, but never did anything with it. Nearly forty years later, as I was stuck at home during the pandemic, I decided cure my boredom by writing. It was a whim that spawned three books and the desire to be a full-time author. Life's funny that way.
J.D. Ruffin I'm currently finalizing books 2 and 3 of the Kingdom War series. Daughter of Magic will launch in October and Shadow of War in November. Audiobooks for all three are also on the way!
