I have several projects on the go at the moment, but I think the one that is likely to make it to print first is a story of a troubled boy who finds comfort in practising his magic tricks. A disastrous performance at a school talent show leads him to find unexpected love with another boy, but as their relationship grows, all sorts of odd things start to happen. I will leave it at that, don't want to give too much away, obviously.

To date, I tend to get a tiny idea in my head that grows and grows until it is more or less a fully formed story. I then put pen to paper and let it flow. And then I edit, edit and re-edit.

For me, the best thing is holding a book in my hand that I have written and knowing it is out there and other people are enjoying it too. It is nerve-racking for sure, but ultimately rewarding.

My best piece of advice is second hand and was given to me quite recently by another author I have befriended on Instagram. Just write anything. You can always improve it later, but you can't improve a blank page!

I think I am so early in my writing career, after sitting on my hands for so many years, that I have been lucky not to have experienced this yet. But I will let you know when I do!

My recent book, If I Had Died Last Summer, is a collection of short stories. Some taken from my teenage scribblings, now revisited and rewritten, but there are some completely new ones too. I am pleased with it as a collection, but I am now firmly back into writing another novel.
