I was frustrated about the career pipelines for emerging leaders in the social sector, about philanthropy being more geared towards civic triage and not seeding the solutions of tomorrow. That strategic plans were stifling creativity and the power dynamics of the funder & fundee relationships where exacerbating already scarce resources. The list goes on and on. Tech can be a great equalizer if applied right, it's just that the nonprofit sector is about a decade behind the times and therefore miss out on how we shape its uses. It's time for that to change and demystify tech to help tackle some of societies most pressing issues.

Working diligently on my blog - futurephilanthropy.blog which supplements and enhances the content in my current book. The new book is being shopped around now and has more of a focus on fundraising rather than the sector at large.

Capturing and downloading all of the thoughts, learnings and ideas that pass through my mind each day. The best thing about writing to me is that it's a therapeutic exercise that helps me move forward. The things I write don't need to be actioned or go anywhere either and that's liberating.

Write about what interests you, not what your industry thinks you should write about. Write for you. Be brave - someone will always read it another way than you intended, a different angle than you expected and for this reason you can't write hoping to cater for all. Be proud of what you put out there because your experiences are your experiences and they shaped and inspired you voice (that evidently you want to share).

I sign up for lot's of industry newsletters that talk about futurism and tech advancements for society. Innovation at the end of the day doesn't need to be something new, just new to you, and given the nonprofit sector is in many cases the last vertical that tech seeks to support it's important we ideate what the many needs and uses could be. Tech is advancing so quickly now that there is always something new to riff of of or be inspired to write about.
