As I plot everything beforehand, down to the individual scenes I can write the scene I feel inspired to write on a particular day, depending on my mood or what I've had for breakfast or what needs to be done. If I don't feel inspired to write a scene it's probably because it is not engaging enough, so I work through what would make it more engaging.

Being able to live with my characters for months on end and discover what they think about different events.

It's often a situation, but I'll twist it to suit what I write, which is romance. I guess if I wrote murder mysteries I'd transform the situation into something more gritty and unpleasant. The initial situation for my debut novel Warm Pearls and Paper Cranes was when I discovered an aunt wished to be buried with her long term companion. They weren't romantically involved but it got me thinking, what if?
