Reid Winslow I get an idea, or a concept I think needs to be talked about. An interesting story or person, or experience. Then I work it into a narrative.
Reid Winslow Don't give up. Be willing to look at the structure of what you are creating objectively. Do not become too wed to a certain narrative voice, perspective, or even story- if you are writing fiction. Writing is an evolving process an you may develop some of the best part of your work just when you think it is done. A book is never really finished.

Do not loose hope and seek the solace and friendship of other writers. There is strength in numbers. Avoid focusing on petty or negative interactions. A good writer will be happy for your success.
Reid Winslow Being a writer allows you to spend time deep diving in your imagination. It allows you to think about issues that are central to you, and the share them. It is a very selfish act. As you craft characters and story arcs you get to think bring your own experience into the process.

I think one reason authors take negative reviews so personally, is criticism is in no small way , an attack on the author's personal observations and experience. I think it is critical for every writer to realize , many people have different perspectives on a given event or experience.

At its best, writing is a means of understanding oneself. At its worst , it is like root canal work for weeks on end.
