Anya Liftig Well, I get very angry at myself and then I turn to wordless things. I go to visual imagery. Mostly I switch to collage work and just focus on juxtaposing color with color, just getting away from definition. I find that if I do that for awhile, then I can at least revise an old piece in a new way. If I'm lucky, that can be an entry point into new writing. Also, self-bribery with cookies.
Anya Liftig Find our what space works for you and don't judge how "artistic" or "literary" it seems. I wrote most of Holler Rat in the far corner of a Panera Bread in a strip mall and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. It was excellent people watching, constant food access and no pressure. Find that place for yourself. It's not a beauty contest or a show. It's about getting the work done however you can, when and where you can,
Anya Liftig I am very American in that I love driving and listening to my stereo at full blast. I always think of ten million things I want to say when I am in the car. I swear that I will remember them later, but I never do.
