Some of the best things about being a writer are when you think of a scene that makes you kick your feet in delight and when readers write to tell you how much they enjoyed your book. One reader wrote a review about how much she enjoyed reading My Rock Star Neighbor while having immune therapy treatment, and I was just so touched.

This is such a good question! I didn't have a modern author in mind, so I was thinking initially of Agatha Christie (as I love her mysteries), but of course, it couldn't be her in real life. But that is why the last name is Chrissy as a nod to Agatha Christie. But then the themes of Wilhemina Chrissy's books had to be in line with some of the themes I was exploring in this book relating to found family, so that was not specific to Agatha Christie. And the reason why I started writing was because I watched a romantic comedy movie and thought I could write a better one! So that answer was based on me :)

I found it very hard to have any work/life balance when I was a lawyer at a law firm, so that inspired this in part. But I did make a lot of great friends at my law firm, so I also wanted to convey those friendships.

Take writing classes. I have learned so much from writing classes. Also classes are great for meeting other writers and finding critique partners. And of course, just write. I am a big believer in just getting words down on the page and then rewriting it. I took a Penguin writing course, and the teacher recommended setting a timer for 15 minutes and writing. And it really does work! I also recommend reading in your genre. And also read books on writing. I want to have as many tools in your writing toolbox as possible, to quote one of my favorite writing teachers Linnea Sinclair.
