I get inspired by ideas, by listening and watching people. Normal lives have so much scope for creativity and a comment. For example, I might be in a local shop where something is said that might just resonate with me, give me inspiration for an idea, a chapter, character. The inspiration can come at anytime and the trick is to make a note of it, mentally or on your phone son you don't forget!

There are so many things. Seeing your work develop and that feeling when you know where the story is going and you can write freely and with such creativity. The sheer joy of your book being published, followed by the lovely genuine feedback. It makes the whole process worth it in the end.

First of all write everyday, even if it is just for 15 minutes, and then longer when you can. Also, read. Anything and everything, especially things that interest you, and authors that have written similar ideas to what you are writing. Finally use the mantra of Read, Write, Edit, Repeat and get into that habit!

I am in the process of adapting Certified into a script / screenplay. I am also writing a sequel with the narrator and main character taking the reader on his journey of employment, holidays, and sporting life. A sort of Work, Rest, and Play fictional memoir.

Some days it can happen. I have no feel for it when I sit down in front of my laptop. When this happens I just write and keep writing. The text my be rubbish when I finish but there will be a hidden gem in those 1500 words or so that I will come back to the next day and that will be the catalyst to go again with the creativity and imagination.

I always wanted to write about my fathers passing. He left home when I was 13 so to organise a funeral for someone you hadn't seen or talked to for 25 years was rather bizarre. His will was puzzling, where he wanted his ashes spreading was a challenge, and the funeral, which we thought would just be us children, turned into a rather surprising large event.
I then began to think about my daughter, how I never thought I would have children, that time had passed me by and that is where I got the final idea to write about the three certificates and the funny, but heart-breaking stories that accompanied them.
