Dani Resh I came up with the idea many moons ago when my son was very young and I would read to him every night before bed. Since we were reading many whimsical stories, I started to think about all of the reimagined fairy tales that were becoming quite popular at the time. For some reason, the nursery rhyme about an old lady who lives in a shoe popped into my head. I began to wonder what kind of story could explain a house shaped like a shoe and what kind of people would live there. Before I knew it, Wren and his family members began to formulate in my head, and eventually, Compass to Vinland took on a life of its own.
Dani Resh I get inspired by everything! Travel, news stories, books, mythology, history, movies, nature, things that people in my life are going through. I feel like there are stories everywhere I look. I find that I just need to be in tune with the potential that surrounds me. I always try to carry a notebook with me so that I can jot down anything that I find intriguing before it slips my mind.
Dani Resh I am currently working on the third book in the Magic Shoe Series, titled Cunning Warrior (which is the name of Rusty's Magic Shoes). The third book will be told from Rusty's perspective and the majority of the book will take place in the mythical realm of Vinland. I have also been working on a YA fantasy about two warring kingdoms that have been in conflict for centuries. When one of the kingdoms successfully casts an infertility spell over the other, rendering their army depleted and weak, three females are caught up in the chaos surrounding a search for the cure.
Dani Resh I find that if I am stuck, I make myself just write with the knowledge that I might not be able to use anything that I put down. You never know where the act of writing will take you and may be surprised at what surfaces. Many times it seems like the story has a life of its own and will eventually lead you to where it wants to go, even if you you have to go through quite a bit of crap to get there. Kind of like life, you just have to keep chugging along, put the work in, and eventually, you'll find your way.
