Daan Katz For me, the best thing about being a writer is that I get to be my best self. Writing is a solitary activity, and I thrive on solitude. Being at home, with my three cats, my characters whispering in my ear... it's all I need, really.
(Well, I guess I need food and sleep, too - though I tend to forget about these easily. Writers really should be able to live on words alone.)
Daan Katz Badly. I get all grumpy because I hate not being able to write.
Usually, my writer's block is caused by overload, and more specifically, social overload. This means I have to dial back on my social obligations, so my brain becomes a Muse-friendly environment again.
Daan Katz I was already working on a novel when I got an invitation to participate in NaPoWriMo. Though I don't really consider myself a poet, I figured I had nothing to lose, so I committed to writing one poem a day for one month. I chose a theme, "The Magic of Thirty", and a form, the humble cinquin.
I loved it, and continued to write cinquins when NaPo was over. One cinquin to precede each chapter of my novel.
Daan Katz Inspiration is everywhere around me. It's in the people I meet, the music I hear, nature, conversations with friends and relatives... It's literally everywhere.
