The world is full of people, events, images and stories. I feel I'm more of a storyteller than an author. When a story comes to mind, I let it unfold as I write. It's pretty rough the first time through, but it does flow. After that, testing with re-reads, beta readers and finally pro editing.

The first thing I do to get back into "the zone" is a review of what I've written so far. I then look at the storyboard (in my case, a PowerPoint slide per chapter) and make any changes based on what I read.

As a rookie author myself, my advice is a paraphrase of Van Gogh's advice to aspiring painters, that if a voice inside you says you can't paint, then by all means paint and the voice will be silenced. So, keep writing.

I helped raise two stepdaughters who became resilient, strong adults. I've also worked with a group of young adults in the mental health field who have also shown great resilience, the "willows" who would bend but not break.
