My TBR is out of control and is bound to get worse until I release the last book in my current series, in June of 2023. At that point I plan to take a little break between books and actually have a summer, after spending the last three straight years writing. (No doubt I'll still be writing, but not at quite such a breakneck pace for just a minute!)

I would say the "inspiration" to write is rare. Sometimes something pops into my head and I just HAVE to get it down, but more often than not it's showing up at my desk every day and hoping some magic will happen. Some days it doesn't, and a person has to learn to be ok with that, but on the days it flows...those are the good days!

I don't know that I'd call this a mystery, but when I was very young my little brother and I were very nearly abducted. It's always made me shudder to think of the outcome, had my mother not come flying out of the house and the man disappeared. One day I'll use the experience as the basis, or as a part of, a book.

This could be a long answer...
When I first started seriously writing, I was inspired by the story of a close friend and wanted to touch upon some of the things she'd been through, yet give her a HEA. That book was "Unexpected."
In "Unexpected," my heroine needed a best friend--as one does--and thus Giulia, the loud, crass, take-no-prisoners heroine of "Unwelcome" was born. Because there was so much potential for the story of Giulia and Brandon, that one HAD to be written next and is about 30k words away from completion at present.

On a good day, I get to spend the whole day inside my head, writing down the characters who won't leave me alone.
The downside is that these days are rare. Most of the time I am struggling to find The Writing Spirit, wherever She may be!

My computer crashed.
I'm not so sure my document auto-saved! (Ha, ha!)

First of all, I have to admit to myself that I'm suffering from it. Then I have to give myself permission to get up and do something else for a while--sometimes for a couple days. Oftentimes it's things I've let slide: housework, exercise, or just reading for fun. But doing those things refreshes me, and often my brain fills the plot holes while I'm away from my desk, allowing me to get excited about getting back to writing!

No one's going to want it for you more than you do, and nothing's going to fall in your lap. You have to show up and work, every single day. Don't count on luck.

I'm presently writing a six-book series based on ex-military men rejoining civilian life after serving with the 10th Mountain out of Fort Drum, NY. I'm nearly finished with #3, looking at my publication schedule and wondering if I can handle three more before August!
