I'd go to the 'event horizon' to understand how things work, but I would not expose the answer to other people because I think us, as humans, would screw things up.

When I woke up, the man in the painting had disappeared. Humph . . . and I thought it was a dream.

As a writer, you are the director, producer, and editor (but you need to get a work edited by another!). That's what I like about it. I don't need anyone's approval, although a wise writer always listens to critiques, for the writer's toolbox is always growing.
Get into it, get inspired, and write your guts out! Also, you need to sit your ass down and write. I find writing for me is a pastime, not a job because I like to do other stuff, too.

I started with poetry, so I think for a new writer, poetry is a good introduction because you are more concerned about image and power, rather than punctuation (although punctuation is also a concern but not in the formal way of prose). It's a good idea to write both prose and poetry because if you get bored of one, switch to the other. Also, do not be concerned about other writers and remember the words of William Blake: My job is not to reason and compare, my job is to create.

I'm currently working on a book called, 'Cumberland Gold', although the title may change. Some characters in this one will be recognizable to readers who have read, 'The Cumberland Tales.'
This is a murder mystery set in Cumberland Chinatown, but is much more than the unpeeling of a murder.

My latest release, 'Mother's Keep' was inspired by my Granny who lived in Gibsons. She met a Canadian soldier in England whom she later married. Granny was a special person. She lived in the deep forest by herself after her husband died, and her daughters moved away, refusing modern conveniences, preferring to do things her way.
When I was a child, Granny mentioned that she had read a story about an academic, a young man, who had turned his back on society to live in a teepee in the woods. The man inspired Granny and formed much of the book, although the main idea was the life of Granny and her family who carved a life from the land during the depression years in Canada.
