Sandra L. Young Hi Charlene, and thanks for your question! I live in LaPorte County, but I worked in Michigan City as Vice President of the Unity Foundation for several years before retiring early to write. We very much supported the growth of the Uptown Arts District, and I wanted to set my book around the creative vibe and promote our area. Actually, the earliest draft was written around the time the district was formed. I had fun creating a semi-fictionalized Michigan City, and local readers are expressing that they enjoy that aspect. If you still live locally, I'm speaking at the Senior Center at 2 p.m. on August 17 and am looking forward to talking with happy readers!
Sandra L. Young Thanks for asking, Alexa! It's hard to narrow to one after 75 shows. So with your indulgence I'll list a trio. Mrs. Kendal in the Elephant Man because our group won the Indiana state theater competition with the show. Brooke in Noises Off because we really nailed the comic timing of that challenging, rapid-paced comedy. And Dean Kenney in Spinning Into Butter, the last show I performed in pre-covid. I had to age up with a huge, heavy gray wig, play a very rigid character and affect an accent. Plus the social justice theme appealed to me.
