I choose a random book from my "to read" list, open any chapter, and write down the first sentence in the chapter. Then, without any context from the original story, I spend 10 minutes writing my own story based on that sentence. This may or may not become a story, but it can get my creativity moving.

I'm currently finishing a short store about a cat who lives on a boat. This is for a submission to a podcast about cats.
I'm also working on my 2nd novel about an teenager from another world who's ship crashes on Earth. She has to dodge military from Earth, and shadowy figures from her own planet.

I'm usually inspired by real events, or people and situations I encounter in the real world.

"The Sentinels" is based on real events that happened to my sister and me while we were growing up. Although the events in the book take place over an 8 month period, in reality they occurred over 4 years. I've twisted the truths of what happened in our childhood into a fictional world that I hope will entertain readers. I wrote it for a target audience of young teens, but I've been told by the few adults who have read it that they like it as well.
