Kristina Smeriglio When dealing with writer's block, I first aim to identify what's holding my voice back. So, I start by allowing my thoughts to come through via dictation, welcoming whatever thoughts wish to come through at that moment regardless of what I'm working on. Oftentimes, processing my thoughts and feelings, and recording that process, allows me to see what's been beneath the surface and in the way. Morning pages help with this as well. When taking the pressure off of writing something specific, and just allowing myself to write or voice whatever comes to mind, the block is easily removed.
Kristina Smeriglio For my first novel, Falling Into Fire, with one of its chapters most recently featured in Caffeine & Ink's first anthology, I was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's painting The Garden of Earthly Delights. The story came to me while working on my Master's in Writing at Nova Southeastern University. In short, the messages being conveyed to me through the painting, caused me to take a critical look at myself and my experiences. It was those experiences and lessons that were then put into words.
Kristina Smeriglio Currently, I'm reading What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson. The film is one I love and have watched several times during major shifts in my life. So I decided to finally pick up the novel. It explores topics I am interested in such as the power of the mind, spirituality, and the afterlife.
