Kathrine Willson Once upon a time, an author wrote a book and published it, but due to the subject matter, the only people who read it were her friends. AND NO ONE LEFT A REVIEW!
(For an author, I think this is horrifying.)
Kathrine Willson I think this is one of the most difficult questions I've ever faced. Since I'm such a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera, I think I would choose to travel into that book to see if I could change the outcome for the Phantom. Everyone deserves a chance to love and be loved, no matter what they look like on the outside. I think Erik had a great capacity for love, but simply didn't know HOW to go about it properly.
I also think it would be interesting to travel to one of the historical romance worlds I visit often. I would love to see the way the nobility live.
Kathrine Willson I don't really have a summer reading list. I don't even have a 'to be read' pile. I am such a voracious reader that if I purchase a book, I'm guaranteed to read it the day I receive it in the mail. And if I read it, it's almost a sure bet that I'll finish it the same day. I love historical romances, classical novels, poetry, and fanfiction. I even love to read history textbooks and autobiographical accounts of WW2.
Kathrine Willson I think the mystery we all face when we do laundry would be an excellent plot. Where DO those socks go when they go missing from the dryer? Also, another mystery we all face is this: Where did the bowls go and why are there so many lids?
Gremlins? An alternate universe? A portal to another dimension inside the dryer?
Kathrine Willson I deal with writer's block by playing the piano. It gives me a creative outlet without my getting frustrated with my writing. I also sound ideas off my friends, my mother, and my children. Sometimes I'll even pose a question on Facebook and get the input from strangers, especially if I'm dealing with an 'either/or' situation in the plot.
Kathrine Willson The best thing about being a writer is that, as a writer, you have ALL of the control in your own little world which you've created. A word of caution, however, is that once you begin writing, it becomes an addiction. Also, no matter how you imagine the story playing out, it nearly never does. Your characters develop a life of their own and begin to dictate how their story will go. It's rather exciting and exhausting, but well worth it.
Kathrine Willson My advice for aspiring writers is this: If you love it, write it. Ask the 'what if' questions and put it on paper. Take inspiration from everything and everywhere. It doesn't matter if you ever publish a single word, but write your stories!
Kathrine Willson 'A Tale from the Darkness' is the first book in what has quickly become a series of stories. The books I am currently working on are sequels to this one. 'Raising Gustave' is the next book in the series, which is currently in editing. The third book is the continuation of 'Raising Gustave'. The fourth book is mostly written and entitled 'Angel of Music'. All four tie together.
Kathrine Willson My first foray into writing came in high school just after my brother was killed. Writing was a means of therapy- I could be anything or anyone I wanted to be if I inserted myself into the stories. It was a means of escape. Now I have children. They love my stories and often have suggestions for plot ideas, character descriptions, etc. It's a family project now and keeps us close now that they're grown.
Kathrine Willson I've always been a fan of Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. I'm also a huge 'Phan' of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. It inspired me to write my own take. We never hear the Phantom's side of the story- all we ever hear is every other character's version. Erik (the Phantom) needed a chance to have his voice be heard. My version of Erik's character, my version of the story, may not be what the reader will expect, but I hope folks will give it a chance.
