Reading back what you've written and thinking 'that's pretty good.' Once you have a book out, the feedback from people is great too. Seeing my book go into the top 5 of the Amazon Best Seller chart in the company of other authors in my field, who I greatly admire, was a real buzz!

The obvious: just write it. Then re-write it. The Joy of Addiction went through about 40 drafts. Unless you're lucky, save yourself the agent-publisher waiting room and go indie!

As The Joy of Addiction is just out, I'm working on promoting that. Then there'll be the next Hampstead Village Voice to edit. Thereafter I have a new book I'm going to write... on the relationship between Britain and Germany. I mentioned it once!
