You won't regret trying. It might be a smashing success. It might not. You'll regret never taking the risk and finding out, so just write the book and get it out there! Someone will thank you for it.

Trey Burwell The idea for Because I Remember You came from my own experience growing up as a closeted gay boy in a Christian household and the experience of various other people I've spoken to and spent time with who grew up in Christian communities around my home state of West Virginia.

The church and its members have caused immeasurable suffering and, as a result, trauma that is hard to stop reliving for all members of the LGBTQ+ community, and it is not confined to any border.

I hope, first of all, that this book might be picked up by someone like me, and that they might find a friend in Monte the way I have. My secondary goal is to open the hearts and minds of any person who does not understand the way it feels to grow up being told that something unalterable about yourself needs to be concealed.
