This is hard because of all the things about being a writer that I know are better than anything on their own. To that end, I'm going to give two of the many answers.
1. Freedom to explore things. Because I write, I can dip into a variety of minds, places, genres and countless other aspects just by starting to string the words togethers. Some will be amazing and others will need quite a bit of work, but that's not a bad process either.
2. I feel the best when I'm doing it. The very act of creating makes me feel amazing. There's so much that I can talk about it this regard, but suffice it to say that the very act of the telling changes me in such powerful and good ways.
Many more after that, but those are really good parts about getting to write.

First, I have stories coming out all the time, sometimes at the most inconvenient of moments. Couple that with the admonition to get the words down, no matter what, means that it is very difficult to succumb to writer's block. As a caveat, I try my best, when on the first draft, not to overly critique what's coming out. That frees me up to write the story before going back to craft it closer to what it will be.
If you're stringing words together, that's writing. It also means you're not blocked because you're doing what writers do. You just have to keep doing it.

Start writing. Keep writing. Write a little bit more. Then do the same with revising. Having something to craft into the story that's in your head is the whole thing because it is not coming out of there whole, but in chunks which need to be stitched together.

Currently, I'm working on a fantasy political thriller with magic, intrigue and a reluctant hero throwing in with the one who possibly destroyed their life.

After seeing the benefits to me of writing daily, I do it everyday regardless of how I feel. Some days that means I'm completely lost in the act and feel the soaring connection to writing. Other days, it can be a struggle. Therefore, I'm inspired to do it because it makes me feel better, cope with things going on (even if they're not directly tied to what I'm writing) and I'm always a better person for having done it.
Plus, there's some really cool characters and stories coming out of the act of writing.

It started simply enough. I wrote the scene in my head of Faye returning home from a party and hearing something she could not explain and having to investigate. From there, everything grew deeper and wider than I could ever imagine.
