Victoria R. Scott I won't lie, I saw a meet-cute writing prompt on Pinterest and I just started writing. I also just graduated from college and I am a sucker for a college romance story, so I just had to write it.
Victoria R. Scott I read too many romance novels, and watch too many rom-coms to not want to write. I haven't been able to live that fairytale love yet, and since I can't experience it in real life, I choose to write about it.
Victoria R. Scott You Were Never the Plan will be my debut novel, releasing January of 2023. Besides that I have other story ideas saved up that I would love to expand on and perhaps release later on.
Victoria R. Scott Write every day if you can. It doesn't have to be a lot, and it doesn't have to be good. Just write because the more you do the better you'll get.
Ask people to read your stuff. Get opinions, get constructive criticism, get praise. It's easy to get caught up in your own opinion of your writing, and in the end, it's what you think that matters, but as a writer and creator, you become biased.
Don't be scared or embarrassed to write. Writing is a beautiful thing and you shouldn't feel like you need to keep it hidden.
And finally, when you aren't writing, read. Read genres you love, try out genres you haven't before, get inspired. Reading inspires, I know that much is true.
Victoria R. Scott Living vicariously through your characters is probably my favorite part because when you're writing fiction, anything can happen.
I also love hearing what people think about my writing. I have friends that have read short stories of mine that tell me they still think about the characters and the story. That is one of the greatest things to hear as a writer.
Victoria R. Scott I don't find that I get writer's block from writing entirely, but from a story. So, when I notice that it's getting harder for me to write a specific story, about specific characters, a scene - whatever it may be - I will start focusing on another story. I get dozens of ideas for new stories, so when one gets dull, I start another one and then come back to the original later.
If that doesn't work, I read and read some more.
