Betsy Withycombe As a debut author I think I still consider myself an aspiring writer. I like to meet hard things head-on, but I was concerned about readers' reactions to the manner of Sarah Grosvenor's death. A writer friend gave me good advice, he said, "Writers have to write the story they want to tell; they can't worry about how it will be used or interpreted."
Betsy Withycombe I write best when I'm not actually sitting down and writing. I write like my father did; the stories, the paragraphs, the words, present themselves in my head in their entirety and I sit down and type them up. I think best (and manage writer's block) by doing something other than writing. My best ideas come while I'm weeding in the garden or baking or swimming laps in the pool.
Betsy Withycombe I'm inspired to write every day. I love words and I love people (their stories, their habits, their quirks and their passions). My interest in words and people suits a writing life perfectly!
Betsy Withycombe I'm a enthusiastic genealogist and I was working on my family tree when I discovered Sarah Grosvenor, my second cousin, eight times removed, and learned a bit about her story. I was intrigued by the lag time between when Sarah died and when arrest warrants were finally issued (for her untimely death) some three years later. I knew that a hero must have finally demanded justice for Sarah and I wanted to tell that story.
