"Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975" by Pat Thomas takes on the vast musical scene during the time that I am also writing about. I just picked up a copy today and from just skimming it, I am engrossed by the excellent photography as well as his written coverage of those times. It brings me back to an era that still holds me spellbound, so full of courageous optimism as people of all backgrounds came together to build a new, revolutionary community of solidarity. Whether we succeeded or failed is a mute point, because we took on so much that continues to simmer below the surface to erupt anew when the winds of history become favorable, as in a California wildfire sweeping all before it as I write, because we ain't done yet. We are old and must pass the torch to those as young as we were to those as full of the same spirit to right the wrongs we see and feel in our political and social community. It is a deep dive, so read and tell me what you think about the book and our evolving times.

Hi Cara, I add you to the list. Don't worry, I just heard from my pub that my book won't be out until Feb. Things move along slow before they speed up sometimes. Merry Christmas!

We are a creative species and I find the line between fiction and non is paper thin. Join me in imposing our fresh new world of hope and joy upon the old, tired version of the reality we were born into.

I lived in the commune run by Joe Sage in Taos New Mexico in 1969. He was a domineering blowhard who made life in our love family difficult and I finally left. He was acquainted with Charlie Manson and was cited in the book Helter-Skelter and later claimed to be on the run from the Manson gang after the trial, but when I tried to research his background I drew a blank. Could he have been under an alias, perhaps an FBI cointel, undercover agent from the time I knew him?

The creative process simmers over ideas even when you are otherwise engaged. Escape from your desk, ride a horse or a bike, walk, make love, eat dinner, sleep and dream. Ideas and long buried memories flow best when you don't force them. The trick is to focus on what pops up to flesh it out & deepen it into your memory bank. When possible, grab an implement & jot them down before they slip back into the all consuming primordial unconscious.

The scenery on your journey is as alluring as the destination. Don't forget to enjoy the ride. If it's no fun, why bother?

Live large; be real. Find what's important to you, something that starts a fire deep in your belly and fan it into an inferno.

As an Aries, I'm often accused of having too much drive to do what's important to me, but coffee does help.

From my personal experience which I felt was worth sharing. Each of us has a unique perspective on the events swirling around us that becomes history.
