D.M.S. Fick Write for yourself. Join writing groups, in person or online. Have a pal to talk about writing with, someone who is excited about it. Study the business, online or with magazine subscriptions. Read acknowledgment pages. Join Twitter (You don't have to post. You will find lots of writers like yourself. But don't look at what's trending. It's fool's gold.)
D.M.S. Fick A second Lewis Sinclair novel. He and the Cowboys get involved in shenanigans at a public television pledge drive.

I'm also working on a sequel to a novel that's sort of a mix of Hello Sunshine and Far From the Madding Crowd.
D.M.S. Fick I send my characters to a party or gathering of some sort. A scene with food and jocular conversation. It usually leads somewhere and it's fun to write.
D.M.S. Fick My first inclination is to say Poldark because I love Cornwall. It's my very favorite place I can imagine. But there's a lot of disease and poverty in the Poldark books, and not a lot of creature comforts. So, instead, you can plop me down into St. Mary Mead. It'll be plenty comfortable and scenic. Maybe I can persuade Miss Marple to take a train trip to St. Ives.
D.M.S. Fick Richard Osman's next Thursday Murder Club and Robert Thorogood's new Marlow mystery. These two write good puzzles with genial intriguing characters.
D.M.S. Fick One of my paternal grandfather's fingers is in a jar in our farmhouse.
