I'm going to tackle the tricky topic of Death in my next book. It will be about a woman with a skill for helping people die peacefully, yet struggles with her own mortality. It doesn't help her withering state of mind that her jealous younger twin wants her dead.

I was teaching 6th Grade Ancient History and we came to the unit on Mesopotamia. This unit had a small piece on The Epic of Gilgamesh, which was one of the first written stories, etched onto stone tablets. It was a familiar narrative, despite being 4000 years old, and something about the plot and the themes clicked, and I knew that I wanted to take that epic tale and transplant it into a modern high school girl's perspective. And so I did.
