Pat Halford The dogs found her body first.
Their GPS trackers brought the hunters to the scene forty minutes later. At first they thought it was an animal’s decomposing corpse. Once they had pulled the hounds away from their carnivorous feeding frenzy, they froze in their footsteps.
Pat Halford Gym, bike or Kayak in summer. And forcing myself into an hours writing every morning before work. Sometimes if I loose the current thread, I go off and write something later in the story, then try to weave it back in. Often this helps open up new plot avenues. I wrote North To Akureyri mostly in 2021 and just let it sit there. Its set in Iceland in 2028 and I had created some interesting characters that I thought could go somewhere else. Then in April 2022 I wrote Tilda & Lærke in a 2.5 month sprint, but during the process realised I could bring some of the Icelandic characters back into the past to fill a gap in the story. So that was when I decided to create a series of Nordic books.
Pat Halford I probably get too attached to my characters. After a while I actually start rooting for them, or cursing them if they are bad:) That inspires me to see what interesting new directions I can take them. I like to write action, but I always start from the character perspective. I also like to flip between first and third person.
Writing for me (at the moment) is a hobby because I have an interesting job in the middle of a lot of converging trends (AI, robotics, space, AR/VR etc), but with writing you can really escape. At the end of the day I just try to write a cracking yarn that the reader will enjoy.
Pat Halford Share advice, because Im an aspiring writer too! I got some great insights from youtube talks and online forum. But the best advice I got was about the discipline and focus. Create a cadence and just write at certain times. Dont be too critical of what you first write. Also, you are creating something that no one else has created (hopefully)...so just let it flow out of you.
Pat Halford A sequel to Tilda & Lærke, also set in Denmark, and a Finland based serial killer thriller. But I have parked that until I get the Danish sequel out, hopefully by December.
Pat Halford I always wanted to write a novel. I write a lot of Business blogs but you cant really let yourself go. With fiction you can really decide on the entire world that you are trying to create. And go back and change directions when some new idea pops up (usually in the gym!).
Pat Halford I have worked in Denmark for the last 22 years on and off. I also lived there for a few years. I always thought it would be fun to write a Nordic thriller from an outsider perspective, and using a lot of British and American staccato slang.
