I'm currently completing the first draft of the third novel in the series, tentatively titled "The Gate of Blood and Pearl." The first two novels of the Crane Moon Cycle, "The Phoenix and the Sword" and "The Shoreless River," are a completed story arc; these next novels bring the characters into a new setting and challenges. The fourth and fifth novels are already completed in draft, tentatively titled "The Starry Maze" and "The Prince of the Air." The series will be completed with "The Last Dragon" and "The Horned King." At least that's the current plan! I don't intend to release any novels from this next arc until the entire series is completed in first draft at least, because I personally hate waiting for an author to complete a series that I enjoy.

The image that started The Phoenix and The Sword was one of the dark green oak trees in Northern California nestled alone in a set of hills that had turned dusty gold with the dry summer, an image I see constantly every time I drive in any direction. As I imagined the story, under that tree there were two women talking. One of them said to the other, "Healing and not dying, that's all I've got."
