It's the perfect combination of crippling introversion and a love of daydreaming!

Sometimes listening to music really helps me get past it. I love hearing a song that radiates the mood I'm trying to capture, then sitting with my eyes closed, listening, and envisioning my characters living in that mood.
Other times, honestly, I just plain force myself to write and work with whatever comes out!

Just sit down and write! I get up early and have that time set aside for myself. I don't always churn out something I love, but at least I'm chipping away at it!
Also, no idea is a too big or too small. If something inspires you to write, you really should go for it.

I actually sat with the idea for a pretty long time before I wrote it, and it came to me as a result of living in a society where violence like this happens far too often. Because the topic is so sensitive, I wanted to make sure I handled it in a way that was respectful and honest. I've always been interested in politics, but I also recognize that I don't have the answers all on my own either! So, I decided to tackle this subject from the various perspectives of different characters in a human way, rather than a political, preachy sort of manner. I wanted to depict the trauma with an up close, emotional narrative while also offering up some hope for a better future. The theme is love at the end of the day, and how we have the power to choose it.
