Carol Rhees I tend to write in spurts. Once the mood strikes, I totally move into my characters' lives and can stay there for days. Then the sun will come out and I'm off to the beach or golf or the grandchildren until the mood strikes again. I am definitely most productive during the gray days of winter.
Carol Rhees Honestly, I've never experienced writer's block. I am so lucky to be retired and not looking to make a living from my writing. Instead, I write for the sheer pleasure of the experience. No pressure, no block. At least for me.
Carol Rhees Three years ago I was sitting by the pool with my good friend Claire who was telling me about the fighting going on in her small Cape Code hometown over whether to legalize the sale of recreational marijuana in the township. Claire's story, which was repeated all over Massachusetts and since then in other states, struck me as the perfect back-drop for a novel. Claire and I spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know the main characters, two older women named Helen and Alice. What fun! Thank you, Claire!
