I feel like this is such an obvious answer, but my favorite thing is when I know that people have connected with my characters. I love getting messages like, "I can't believe that so-and-so did this!" or "I hate so-and-so, they are the worst!" It shows me that they are thinking of the characters as genuine people and I love to know that they have come to life that way in someone's imagination.

I get a lot of inspiration through music. If I have to write a chapter where the character is sad or angry I will adjust my playlist accordingly and choose music that evokes those specific emotions in me.
