The manager was on her phone in her office. She saw me and waved frantically. I ran over. Her husband had been shot with a shotgun through a window next to their bed. I did everything I could to assist until EMS arrived. He recognized the shell casing. He had been shot with his own gun! Who shot him? Why?

I served in the Air Force for twenty years. While assigned to Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, I learned a lot about the lives of Military Training Instructors. The idea of a heroine working as an MTI seemed like a natural.
